**In short:** On many Oral-B Pro 3 versions, the battery light flashes green while the handle charges and goes off or stays lit when it is full, depending on version. A flashing red light usually means the battery is low. If no light shows on the charger, check the plug, the shaver socket switch and that the handle sits fully on the stand. A first full charge can take several hours, so overnight is a safe rule.

The Oral-B Pro 3 has a small battery light on the handle that tells you what the battery is doing. Because there are several versions of the Pro 3, the exact behaviour varies a little, which is why people search for what it means. This guide explains the common light patterns, how long a full charge takes, what to do when no light appears, and when a battery is wearing out. Keep your manual to hand, as it gives the exact behaviour for your version.

## Common Pro 3 light patterns

The table gives the patterns seen on many Pro 3 versions. Check your manual, as versions differ.

| Light | What it usually means |
| --- | --- |
| Flashing green on the charger | Charging |
| Steady green, or green then off | Fully charged, depending on version |
| Flashing red when brushing or switching off | Battery low, needs charging soon |
| No light on the charger | Not charging: check power and seating |
| Red light ring while brushing | Pressure warning, not battery |

Oral-B Pro 3 battery light: common patterns

## Do not confuse it with the pressure light

The Pro 3 has a 360 degree light ring that glows red when you press too hard while brushing. That is the pressure warning, not a battery signal. It goes off or turns green when you ease off. The battery light is a separate small indicator on the handle.

Our article on [toothbrush pressure sensors](https://brushandfloss.co.uk/blog/toothbrush-pressure-sensors-explained) explains how pressure warnings work, and [Oral-B Pro 3 instructions](https://brushandfloss.co.uk/blog/oral-b-pro-3-instructions) covers the handle's buttons and lights.

## How long a Pro 3 takes to charge

Oral-B's Pro handles charge on a standard inductive stand, which is gentle and slow. A full charge from empty takes several hours; the manual gives the figure for your version. Leaving the handle on the stand overnight is the simplest way to be sure. Oral-B quotes up to about two weeks of typical use from a full charge for Pro handles.

Before first use, give the handle a full charge. Our article on [how long to charge an electric toothbrush](https://brushandfloss.co.uk/blog/how-long-to-charge-an-electric-toothbrush) covers first charges and battery lights across brands, and our [battery-days check](https://brushandfloss.co.uk/tools/battery-days-check) converts quoted days to your routine.

## No light on the charger

If nothing lights when you put the handle on the stand, work through these checks.

1. Check the charger plug is fully in and the socket is switched on.
2. On a dual-voltage shaver socket, check the switch position matches the charger.
3. Make sure the handle sits fully down on the stand, not tilted.
4. Wipe the base of the handle and the top of the charger.
5. Try another socket, or another Oral-B stand if you have one.
6. Leave it for 30 minutes; a fully flat battery may take time to show a light.

## Shaver sockets and adapters

UK versions of the Pro 3 come with a two-pin charger that suits a bathroom shaver socket. If you use a plug-in adapter in a three-pin socket outside the bathroom, check the adapter is fused and seated firmly. See [charging from a UK shaver socket](https://brushandfloss.co.uk/blog/charging-from-a-shaver-socket).

The Pro 3 charger is the standard Oral-B inductive type, so a stand from another Oral-B Pro, Vitality or Smart handle normally works. It will not charge an iO. See [are electric toothbrush chargers interchangeable?](https://brushandfloss.co.uk/blog/are-toothbrush-chargers-interchangeable).

## When the battery is wearing out

If the light shows green but the brush only lasts a few days, or it flashes red soon after a full charge, the battery may be ageing. Lithium-ion batteries lose capacity over years of use. See [electric toothbrush not holding charge](https://brushandfloss.co.uk/blog/electric-toothbrush-not-holding-charge) for what you can do.

If the handle is under warranty, contact Oral-B. Note: Do not open the handle to replace the battery. Take an old handle to electrical recycling.

## Frequently asked questions

**Why is my Oral-B Pro 3 flashing green?** On many versions this means it is charging. It stops when the battery is full.

**Why is my Pro 3 showing a red light?** If it flashes when brushing ends, the battery is low. If a red ring glows while brushing, you are pressing too hard.

**Can I leave my Pro 3 on the charger all the time?** Oral-B handles are designed to sit on the charger. Check your manual for any advice on occasionally running the battery down.

**Will an iO charger charge a Pro 3?** No. iO chargers are designed for iO handles.
